其目的：（1）防止病原体播散到社会中，引起流行发生。（2）防止病者再被其他病原体感染，出现并发症，发生交叉感染。（3）同时也?；ひ交と嗽泵庖吒腥?。

仅靠消毒措施还不足以达到以上目的。须同时进行必要的隔离措施和工作中的无菌操作，才能达到控制传染之效。不同的传播机制引起的传染病，消毒的效果有所不同。肠胃道传染病，病原体随排泄物或呕吐物排出体外，污染范围较为局限，如能及时正常地进行消毒，切断传播途径，中断传播的效果较好。呼吸道传染病，病原体随呼吸、咳嗽、喷嚏而排出，再通过飞沫和尘埃而播散，污染范围不确切，进行消毒较为困难，须同时采取空间隔离，才能中断传染。虫媒传染病则采取杀虫灭鼠等方法。
